Who We Are

A Community that Cares

Protect Monterey Bay is a group of citizens that cares about the health of the Monterey Bay and its inhabitants. We believe that it is up to us to protect the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary by educating others about environmental impacts, advocating for policies that prevent those impacts, and working together to keep our oceans clean.

We are led by students from local schools whose mission is to bring about meaningful change while inspiring other kids to positively impact the communities where they live. We are supported by families, businesses, and individuals that stand with us by volunteering their time, donating to our programs, and joining their voices to our cause.

I was born and raised just a few miles from the ocean in Monterey. I’ve been able to travel to many places around the world, but none are as beautiful and special as what's right in our backyard!

I enjoy sharing my passion for the ocean and its inhabitants with my friends and family - and just about anyone who will listen! I’m currently getting Scuba Certified to take my love of the ocean to the next level!

I’ve been crazy about the ocean since I was little - surfing, kayaking, snorkeling, and exploring the tide pools. I remember the first day I saw a cruise ship in the Monterey Bay and wondered why it was allowed to park in a place that so many creatures call home.

I love speaking to students, sharing my thoughts with community and political leaders, and working with friends to clean beaches, and protect Monterey Bay!

As a 3rd generation resident of the Monterey Peninsula, I’m glad to be part of this effort to raise awareness, remove trash, and educate our community!

I love working alongside my family and friends to care for the ocean by speaking out to government officials, and getting our hands dirty (literally!) cleaning up the microplastics that invade our shores!

The first time I saw a whale swimming in the Monterey Bay, I knew that I had to be a part of protecting these amazing animals and their habitat from careless human activity.

I’m thankful to community leaders, classmates, and neighbors joining alongside us and believing in our mission - we want to keep the bay thriving so it can be enjoyed and admired for generations!

“I want other young people in my community and beyond to know that it doesn’t matter how young you are - you can work hard to protect the things you love. Our generation needs to raise their voices and speak for those that don’t have a voice.”

Taylor Adams

“You have to be willing to fight for the things you love. I know that every plastic bottle we clean up, and every Cruise Ship we stop leads to a healthier planet - that’s worth the fight.”
