Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs

Why the Monterey Bay?

Not only is this place our home, but it is one of the most unique places in the world with the perfect conditions to attract migratory animals (and scientists) from all over the world.

We know there are important environmental causes all over the world needing the attention of people who care enough to do something . . . our cause is here in our backyard!

How Do You Spend Your Donations?

Our entire non-profit is run by volunteers who have expertise in communication, organization, and governmental relations. With our staff entirely unpaid, we raise money to assist us with the costs of our programs:

  • Beach Cleanups

    • Tools / Outreach

  • Education and Awareness

    • School Assembly Giveaways

    • Public Relations

  • Scientific Studies

    • Study & Partnership costs

  • Lobbying and Government Relations

Do Your Parents Help?

Of course! Our parents are on the board of directors, and have backgrounds in legal, accounting, marketing, entrepreneurship, and non-profit leadership - so that comes in handy!

What’s Wrong With Cruise Ships?

We know that people (including our friends and family) enjoy trips on Cruise Ships - and our purpose isn’t to criticize vacationers, but to educate others on the impact our choices have on our planet.

The Cruise industry has a terrible track record of caring for people and the planet with some cruise lines pleading guilty to environmental felonies, paying millions of dollars in fines for pollution and coverup. They register their ships in nations that allow them to evade U.S. tax, employment, and safety regulations.

Studies show that the pollution (air, noise, sewage, chemicals, oily bilge) from Cruise Ships far outweighs every other way to travel.

Please visit the beautiful Monterey Bay - just do it responsibly!

What If Cruise Ships are Banned?

We’ve seen this before - Cruise Ships being challenged or prevented from easy access to our waterways. But they have powerful lobbying organizations, and endless financial incentives to not easily go down without a fight.

It will take the Federal Government to officially ban them from the Monterey Bay, which is a very tall task because of the spectrum of commercial interests, revenue implications, and political webs far away from this place that are at play.

We won’t stop fighting though - even if it is a large lift.

Even if we achieve a Federal ban - we have much to do to partner with our community keeping the Monterey Bay clean!
